Technique Tuesday – Coloring Ribbon!

Posted on

Happy Tuesday!!! That means I have a fabulous technique to share with you! This technique is one of those Ah Ha moments! If you need a specific color of ribbon and either don’t have it on hand or the ribbon doesn’t come in that color….no worries anymore! All you need is Whisper White Satin or Organza Ribbon or another type of white ribbon!

Ribbon Coloring, www.LaurasStampPad.com

See how I have matched the ribbon to the card! It’s so much fun!

Supplies Needed: White Ribbon (Satin, Organza, Baker’s Twine, Seam Binding, & Cotton), Markers or Spritzers or Sponge Daubers

Now this technique has the Ah Ha moment because you only need a few supplies and it is the easiest thing ever to color your ribbon. You will wonder why you hadn’t thought of this before. You can color your ribbon either by coloring it with your markers, tapping your sponge dauber in the ink and rubbing it on, or spritzing it with your Spritzer. For the Spritzer, you will just add Re-inker and Alcohol (70 Proof or less) and spritz away! 🙂 I have found that the colors sometimes come out lighter or darker than you may expect so sometimes you might need to go light or pick a lighter color to match your project!

In the photo above, I used my Crisp Cantaloupe, Rich Razzleberry, and Rose Red Markers to color the Organza Ribbon! For the card on the right and left, I used my Work of Art Stamp Set (LOVE), Small Butterfly Punch, Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack, and Rhinestones! For the middle card, I used the Hello There Hostess Stamp Set!

Ribbon Coloring Technique, www.LaurasStampPad.com

Here I used my Red Marker on the Organza Ribbon and the Spritzer on the Satin Ribbon.

I hope you try this out the next time you need a specific color of ribbon! Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Amazing Work of Art!!!

Posted on

Okay so you have seen my Work of Art Note Cards which were amazing and simple! I just stamped on Note Cards so there was no adhesive or layers! You can check them out here and here! NOW, I’m going to show you more amazing cards with the Work of Art Stamp Set and these have layers and embellishments and more!!!!

Work of Art, www.LaurasStampPad.com

This is probably one of my Top Favorites! I really love them all but I think that Blackberry Bliss is my favorite In-Color so the cards that use that color are always on top! This card uses Blackberry Bliss as well as Mossy Meadow for all of the paper and ink! I used some of the new 3/8″ Stain Stitched Ribbon on here which I love because it is like half elegant and satin and half….mmm…not elegant? I don’t know how to describe it! It can be used for both looks and work out great! (if any of that made sense) The lighter heart was actually stamped, cut out, and popped up on dimensionals for little extra texture.

Work of Art, www.LaurasStampPad.com

This is my second top favorite!!! I love the hearts and Polka Dots from the Moonlight Designer Series Paper. I used Hello Honey and Blackberry Bliss ink and cardstock! I used that fabulous Satin Stitched Ribbon again and a few Rhinestones! I love the various shades of color you can achieve with a little stamping off or continuous stamping! So fabulous!!!

Be on the lookout for more Work Of Art cards! I just can’t put this stamp set down! If you don’t have this set yet, CLICK HERE to get yours now!!!!

Okay, I’m beyond excited about this card because it has so many of my favorite colors, the word Fabulous :), and some bling – Rhinestones! I love it!!!! I used Elegant Eggplant, Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight, and Melon Mambo! I then tied some White Organza Ribbon along the time of the fringe pieces. I used Daffodil Delight Seam Binding in a few others as well! Then for the greeting….LOVE IT….Million and One Stamp Set! Here is a video showing off the Fringe Scissors! Big News!!!!

Big New Birthday Candle, www.LaurasStampPad.com

So it’s may not really be YOUR Birthday but this Big New Stamp Set is super fabulous and most definitely something to get excited about!!!! What? You think the blog title was misleading? 🙂

The Big New Stamp Set is super fun! I got it because I loved the big greetings but when it arrived I went to my stamp room and just started playing. Ideas were flowing like crazy and I was giddy with excitement of the cards I was coming up with! I love when that happens! These two cards were created by stamping the candle in Stazon along the bottom and then adding the birthday greeting! Then I colored in the candles with my markers! I LOVE how you can get a masculine and feminine card out of the same style and the color combinations are endless! You can always match the color to the recipient’s favorite color or party theme color. How fabulous is that? Of course I’m loving Bermuda Bay right now and Melon Mambo is always my favorite. For the Melon Mambo card, I added a little 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon in Melon Mambo! Love that ribbon!

Big New Birthday, www.LaurasStampPad.com

Here is another sample that I created on Whisper White cardstock and then added a little 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon in Pool Party!

This past weekend I did this card at a Stamp Party and everyone came up with different ideas for their card. Some stamped the same number of candles as the year the Birthday recipient was going to be, some stamped the candle on the envelope in the shape of the first letter of the recipient’s name (example: Harper was the Birthday Girl getting the card and so she stamped the candle 3 times to create an H on the envelope). It was so fun to see all of the creations everyone was coming up with!!!

There are more fabulous images in this stamp set too so be on the lookout and be sure to add this set to your order! Big New in Clear – 134018 and in Wood – 134015!

Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper!!!

Posted on

The Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper is unlike any other….it is bright and cheery and playful on one side and the other side is very elegant, rich, and beautiful! I love that in a pack of paper because there are so many ways to use it – kids birthday cards, anyone’s birthday card, sympathy, Mother’s Day, Wedding, etc. Here are a few samples I have made showing both sides of this amazing paper!!!!

Mother's Day Card with Birthday Basics DSP, www.LaurasStampPad.com

Love this card with those rich colors and beautiful flowers! I used the Delightful Dozens Stamp Set for the greeting and the Decorative Label Punch! For that amazing ribbon, I just took some Seam Binding and pulled one of the middle strings which then makes it begin to gather! Be sure not to pull too hard because the entire sting with pull out. Once you get half way across, stop and pull a different one on the opposite side. This will help it to not pull out. For the bow, I made loops and then secured the center with a Antique Brad!

Birthday Basics Card, www.LaurasStampPad.com

I love the bright and cheery look of this card! I used the Decorative Label Punch and Bring On The Cake Stamp Set for the greeting! For the bow, I placed a piece of 4-1/2″ Organza Ribbon across my card and adhered the ends to the back of the Designer Series Paper. I then took another 4″ piece and added a dab of adhesive in the middle and then brought the 2 ends that middle dab of glue and stuck them down! Then taking another ~2″ piece, wrap it around the center to cover those ends! Perfect little bow and it won’t add any bumps to your card for mailing!!! Here is another close up photo of the bow!

Peaceful Petals and Watercolor!!!

Peaceful Petals Watercolor, www.LaurasStampPad.com

I LOVE this stamp set….I mean it has flowers in it so of course I do! Peaceful Petals is lots of fun for stamping, coloring in, watercoloring, and so much more! For this amazing card, I stamped the image on Watercolor Paper and then using my Blender Pens, I added Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay ink to make that gorgeous flower! I love the color scheme too so this card is filed in the fabulous card file for sure! Another favorite technique I like to do is layer a bright color with black and white. The contrast really makes it POP and I love it! For the ribbon, I tried something new. I laid the Daffodil Delight Seam Binding on my cardstock and layered Bermuda Bay 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon on top of it (adhering the ends to the back). Then I took 2 pieces (one of each) about 5 inches long and tied them together around the layered pieces. I haven’t tried mixing my ribbons like that but I’m liking the look! What do you think? Leave me a comment below!

How to Watercolor with Your Spritzers!!!

Posted on

Hello Hello!!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! It is Wednesday so we are half way to the weekend! 🙂 I wanted to share with you this fabulous way to get a watercolor look without a cup of water and a paintbrush! Some may call this faux watercoloring but most of the watercolor projects I do are faux!

Watercolor with Spritzers, www.LaurasStampPad.com

How beautiful is that? I think it is amazing! This is one of the flower stamps from Peaceful Petals in the Occasions Mini Catalog! Love it!!!! What you will do is color the stamp with your markers using the thicker tip (that way you get pink flowers and green stems). Then you will take one of your Spritzers filled with water and spritz it.

Watercolor with Spritzers, www.LaurasStampPad.com

Now here is the tricky part where each one comes out different. I recommend spritzing 1 or 2 times and not real close to the stamp so that only the little mist of the spritz hits the stamp. When you spritz more or less, close or far away, each time you will get a different look. Then I stamp the image down onto Watercolor Paper! Again you can either hold it for a mini second and then lift or you can hold it for 10 seconds and let the color run into the watercolor paper more. Another fun tip…..have 2 pieces of Watercolor Paper available and after you stamp the first time, stamp again. Sometimes it comes out better than the first one or lighter but still amazing, either way you just got 2 amazing images out of one coloring!!! WOOT WOOT!  In the photo above, I held it for a mini second and got that amazing image. Then I took lighter colors (Pink Pirouette & Pistachio Pudding) than the original colors (Melon Mambo and Garden Green) and colored in the flowers and stem. That one is my favorite!

Watercolor with Spritzers, www.LaurasStampPad.com

This one here was stamped and I held it for 10 seconds, letting the colors run more into the paper. As you can see the flowers are more solid (filled in) and I didn’t color those in. Some may like that look, other may not! It is all about the art of watercolor!!!

Did you notice that pink and green ribbon on these 2 cards? Where did that come from??? I COLORED IT!!! Check out this post on how to create amazing colored ribbon! I hope you enjoyed this watercolor idea and try it out yourself! For more tricks on watercoloring check out this post and this post! Let me know what you think in the comment down below!!!!

Don’t forget about the Stampin’ Up Retiring Products, My Anniversary Special and FREE SHIPPING going on this week!

Congratulations Graduate!!!!

Posted on

Graduation is around the corner so I thought I would share my favorite Graduation Card! This is an occasion that can happen in December, May or anytime of the year. You may know of 5 graduates one year and only 1 the next. So because of this, I don’t tend to purchase graduation specific stamp sets, but I do LOVE all occasion stamp sets like Teeny Tiny Wishes (greatest stamp set ever)!!! I think played around with my punches and some cardstock and came up with this AMAZING card!!!!

Graduation Cards, www.LaurasStampPad.com

I love this card so much because it can easily be customized to each recipient. I really enjoy giving a card when I know it fits that person so perfectly. I have done these graduation cards in school colors, degree colors, and so much more! I LOVE IT!!!

Cardstock Dimensions:

Card Base (whisper white) – 4-1/4″ x 11″
Layered Color – 4″ x 5-1/4″
Hat: 1-1/2″ Square
Largest Triangle for Neckline (whisper white) – 2-1/4″ Square cut diagonally
Color Triangle – 2″ Square cut diagonally
Smallest Triangle (whisper white) – 1-3/4″ Square cut diagonally and then cut a “V” out of the center to show the color through

I brushed the edges of the hat with my sponge daubers (HEART) in the same color as the cardstock to give it that darker edge look and make it POP from the gown since it is all the same color! I also adhered it with Stampin’ Dimensionals!  For the tassel, I used Whisper White Bakers Twine and just wrapped it around the square hat four times, then cut the twine on both the top and bottom on your square. This gives you eight little pieces of twine. Then take a longer piece of twine and tie the little pieces together in the center. Trim one of the tails to be the same as your little pieces and leave the other one longer to poke through the hole of your hat using your Paper Piercing Tool. Then add a Silver Brad over the time and you are all done!

Nurses Graduation Card, www.LaurasStampPad.com

Sorry for the horrible lighting in this picture but I snapped it quickly before sealing the envelope and dropping it in the mail. This one I did for my Best Friend when she graduated in Nursing! Super Cute! I hope you try this out for some of the Grads that you know this May!!! If you have any questions or would like to share your fabulous Graduation card, leave a comment below! I would love to hear from you!!!
