Technique Tuesday – Purple & Gold!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! That means I have a fabulous technique to share with you today – heat embossing! Many of you may know all about heat embossing but I thought I would talk about the tools, steps of heat embossing and tips along the way as a refresher and for those who have never done it before!!!

Purple and Gold are so rich and fabulous. I love that deep color…..and you know I am a “Brights” girl!!! I played with some masking techniques on this one and I have some tips for you.

I started with a piece of Whisper White measuring 4″ x 5-1/4″ and I masked off the square. This can be any size or shape you would like. TIP: Use printer paper and not a Post-It Note because the sticky from the Post-It stays on the cardstock enough to hold embossing powder. So just cut strips of paper and lay them in a square or cut a square out of a piece of paper. Be sure to secure your cardstock to your surface as well as securing the mask to the surface. You don’t want the cardstock to move underneath your mask and you don’t want your mask to move. For this card, I actually colored in the square with a Sponge Dauber and Elegant Eggplant Ink but you could always use a Sponge Brayer! You can add as much color as you want for the perfect shade. Keep going if you want a darker look. Be sure to allow the ink to dry before embossing since you are adding so much ink in one spot. After a minute or so of drying (or use the Heat Tool to dry it), now it is time to emboss. Start by running the Embossing Buddy over the cardstock to get rid of an static on your cardstock. Tap off an excess powder and then stamp your image in VersaMark Ink. I stamped the flourish from the Flourishing Phrases Stamp Set. After stamping the image, you will pour the embossing powder of your choice over the image. I used Gold Embossing Powder. Tap off the excess powder and heat the image with your Heat Tool. TIP: Don’t wave the heat tool over your image because that is just dispersing the heat and then it will take longer. Start on one side or corner and once it starts to melt, just move your way around the image slowly until it is all melted. The first time you use the tool each time will take a bit longer than if you embossed 5 at one time because it takes a bit to warm up. So if you are making multiples, the first one might take a minute to melt but the rest will take 45 seconds.

Now that you have your image embossed it is time to finish it off. I stamped the greeting from the Number of Years Stamp Set and added some Gold Metallic Thread for texture and a little more gold!

Technique Tuesday – Creating a Paisley Background!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!! I hope your week is off to a great start!!! We all know what Tuesday means on my blog….technique time!!!! The Paisleys & Posies Stamp Set is super fun and makes amazing backgrounds for cards, scrapbook pages, home decor, and so much more!!

Isn’t it beautiful??? I went with Calypso Coral and Night of Navy. I am loving that color combination for this card and that little bit of burlap adds the perfect rustic touch!!

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Paisleys & Posies Stamp Set, Ink color of choice

I started with a Calypso Coral card base. I took a piece of Very Vanilla (4″ x 5-1/4″) and stamped all over the cardstock with different images from the Paisleys & Posies Stamp Set in both Night of Navy Ink and Calypso Coral Ink. You will want to start with your larger images first and work your way down to the smallest image. You will want to be sure to stamp off the edges of the cardstock so it looks like the pattern continues on and on. I went back and forth between the two colors to try to avoid too much navy or coral in one spot. Of course, I don’t seem to be very good with “random”. I always feel like well if I add one here than I need one over there and soon it becomes a hot mess of too much! You can always have a super tight pattern or a wider, more spread out pattern. That is all up to you! Once you are done stamping the background, you can add it to the card base. You could even stamp an entire 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet and then cut it up for multiple cards. For the greeting, I stamped it from the same Paisleys & Posies Stamp Set in Calypso Coral onto Very Vanilla. Each of the banners are 1/2″ wide and they vary in length depending on the greeting and how long you would like them to be. For the banner tips, cut straight up in the middle and then cut diagonal from each corner to that center cut. I layered the banners together with Snail Adhesive. For the Burlap Ribbon, I put down a strip of Tear & Tape and pressed it into the tape for a strong hold and then added the banners with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The dimensionals give texture to the card but also fall into the grooves of the burlap for a strong hold. I love it!!! You could do this in so many different color combinations! What colors would you use? 2 colors? 3 colors? 1 color? An all pink one would be amazing!!! Let me know your ideas in the comments below!

Technique Tuesday – Masking a Scenery!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!! We made it through Monday and now it’s time to check out this amazing technique! I am loving the new Sponge Brayers and all the fun you can have with them! Check out this beauty using the masking technique!!!

That simple, yet amazing color of green grass and blue sky just makes this card so beautiful! I love it. Then you have those white lines of where the color stops and it just looks perfect!

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Sponge Brayer, Marina Mist Ink, Pear Pizzazz Ink, Lovely As A Tree Stamp Set

You will start with a piece of Whisper White (4″ x 5-1/4″) and mask off a section of the cardstock for your coloring and trees. Make sure it is wide enough to stamp the trees. You can use scrap paper as a mask but I found Post-It Note Tape so it is sticky paper tape (that comes off without ripping your cardstock) that holds perfectly. Thank you to Kim Schultze for all the tips and tricks at a recent demonstrator gathering! 🙂

I added the top piece level with the top of the cardstock and the top of the tape. Then for the second piece I went down about 3/4 of the way of the cardstock. Again, you can go as wide as you wish, just make sure it is big enough for your stamped image. Then you will take a Sponge Brayer and Marina Mist Ink and add it to the top half of the masked off space. Just lightly roll over the ink and then lightly over the cardstock until you get the desired color. Pressing hard won’t make the color darker, just keep going back to the ink for a darker color. Once you have the desired blue, you will move to the bottom section of the masked space and add Pear Pizzazz Ink. Be sure to overlap the colors a bit so it fades nicely together and doesn’t look like stripes of blue and green. Once you have your desired shade of green, you are all set. You can remove the scrap paper or Post-It Note Tape and complete your card. I stamped the trees from Lovely As A Tree in Chocolate Chip. The greeting is from the Thoughts & Prayers Stamp Set. I thought it needed a little bit more so I cut a small piece of Burlap Ribbon and added it to the top left corner. I adhered it on the front with a little Tear & Tape and secured it on the back with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added more dimensionals on the back and adhered it to the Marina Mist card base!

I love it! This makes a great man card but also a simple and elegant card for thinking of you, sympathy, and just about any occasion. It is such a beautiful scenery! You could always use this same technique to create a colorful background and stamp flowers over the top or any other favorite image. Tempting Techniques – Christmas Wreath!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! I’m coming off a Birthday high over here!!!! It was a wonderful day but we are back at it today with a fabulous technique!!! I’m going to show you how to create something out of the box with a fabulous stamp set – Jar of Love!!! This set is super versatile and those jars will be appearing in lots of upcoming sets as well. 😉 Stay Tuned!

Okay, I am aware that Christmas is far off (not as far as you think) and we don’t need to start the season any sooner than retail outlets do but……. It is always good to get these cards done early so you can enjoy the holiday season! This card can be created with a set that might not look like a Christmas set too!!! I used the Jar of Love Stamp Set and coordinated Everyday Jar Framelits (Bundle & Save 10%)

I started with a Whisper White card base which I like to use for holiday cards because white is so easy to write in! Then I took a piece of Real Red cardstock measuring 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ and layered it onto the front. With a piece of Whisper White measuring 4″ x 5-1/4″, I stamped the greeting from the Wondrous Wreath Stamp Set in Real Red at the top! For the wreath, I took the branch stamp from the Jar of Love Stamp Set and added it to a clear block with the long stem wrapped around the block to the top side. I don’t want that long stem on my project so I just wrapped it around so it wouldn’t pick up ink. I love that about photopolymer stamps and how you can bend, omit, and play with different angles!

Then I inked it up in Cucumber Crush ink and stamped it in a circle towards the bottom of the card. Start on the bottom with the wreath going to the left or right and then work your way around. TIP: Punch out a circle in the size you want the center to be as a guide to go around so your circle doesn’t become and oval or get out of hand.

I added some of the Cucumber Crush Mini Striped Ribbon between the greeting and the wreath and added it to the card front! I stamped the bow from the Jar of Love Stamp Set in Real Red and die cut it with the Everyday Jar Framelits. I added it to the wreath with Stampin’ Dimensionals! For little items like this, you can cut the dimensional in half or use the outside border!

Technique Tuesday – Embossing Foil Paper!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! You all know what that means! I have a fabulous technique to share with you today and it is super simple but has a major WOW factor! Check out this beauty – pink perfection, yummy cupcake, silver bling, and silver texture foil!!!

I just love this card. It makes me so happy and I just want to frame it so I can smile every time I pass by it!!! There is so much pink and bling and texture!!!

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Embossing Folder of Choice, Big Shot, Foil Paper of Choice

I took a piece of Silver Foil Paper and placed it into the Elegant Dots Embossing Folder. Be sure that the foil is faced up correctly on how you want your image. If you want it embossed the raised side should be behind the foil, if you want it debossed the raised side should be on the foil side! Run it through the Big Shot and check out the beautiful paper you just created! It is that simple. Isn’t that fabulous???

This card starts with a Melon Mambo card base and I layered on a piece of Whisper White cardstock (4″ x 5-1/4″). Then I took a piece of the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper (3-3/4″ x 5″) and adhered it to the card front. I just wanted to layer on all the pink I could! 🙂 I placed the embossed Silver Foil to the bottom 1/3 of the card. Taking a piece of Whisper White, I stamped the greeting from the Sweet Cupcakes Stamp Set in Melon Mambo and added the banner tips with the Triple Banner Punch! I added this to the right side of the card flush with the edge on top of the foil. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the greeting because the foam goes into the bumps of the embossed image and holds very well. With some scrap white paper, I stamped the cupcake liner in Tip Top Taupe. First image was stamped off twice, second image was stamped off once, and the third image is full strength Tip Top Taupe. The icing was stamped in Melon Mambo the same way. Check out this video for more on how to stamp the cupcake! I die cut the cupcake liner and icing with the coordinating Cupcake Cutouts Framelits (Bundle & Save 10%). I added the cupcake to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals again to hold tight on the bumps of the embossed foil. I wanted a little more bling on this card so I added some Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details to the cupcake icing and little dots on the greeting banner!

Technique Tuesday – Waterfall Card!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! That means I have a fabulous technique to share with you today and this one is super fun!!! It is a great way to show off Designer Series Paper or have a greeting slowly reveal itself. Check this out!!!

Look at all of these color and amazing look!!! The magic happens when you pull the ribbon tab at the bottom – each square moves up and flips over to reveal the one below it. Then a message pops out as well – “Just as sweet as can be”! This style of card is called a Waterfall Card!!! Let’s get started!

You will need the following pieces:

Three 2″ x 2″ Squares – I used Watermelon Wonder Peekaboo Peach, and Daffodil Delight.
Three 1-3/4″ x 1-3/4″ Designer Series Paper (or Whisper White to stamp on) – I used the Fruit Stand Paper.
1-3/4″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Crumb Cake, scored at 1-3/4″, 2-3/4″ and 3-3/4″ for the waterfall base
1″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Dapper Denim to go across the card and hold your waterfall in place
8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ Dapper Denim card base
4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Designer Series Paper for background. I used the Fruit Stand Paper.

Okay now we are ready to get started assembling. If you prefer to stamp and image or greeting on each of the squares, you will want to do that first. If you are using Designer Series Paper like I did above, let’s get started! Adhere each of the 1-3/4″ Squares to the 2″ Solid Cardstock Squares. Now you will take the strip of Crumb Cake and fold on each of the score lines. You will see there are 3 rectangles created with the score lines. You will add adhesive to each of the rectangles. Then starting at the end (last rectangle), place one of the squares centered side to side and covering the entire rectangle. Continue to do this with the other 2 squares as well. Your waterfall will have each of the squares on the front with a long piece going down the back. Underneath the squares will be where you will want to stamp a greeting if you wish! I stamped a greeting from the Sweet Stack Stamp Set. You will also want to add your ribbon for the pull tab. You can punch a hole with the 1/8″ Handheld Punch or you can always staple a piece of ribbon folded in half! I used the Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon. Now your waterfall is complete. Fold your card base in half and adhere the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper to the front (4″ x 5-1/4″). Now to assemble your waterfall to your card. You will adhere the end (end with the Fruit Stand Square on it to the center of the Dapper Denim (1″ x 4-1/4″) and allow the other end of the Crumb Cake (end with the ribbon) to go behind the Dapper Denim. Now you will add adhesive to the either end of the Dapper Denim cardstock and adhere to your card. Make sure to use a strong adhesive like Fast Fuse or Tear & Tape since people will be tugging at the waterfall and you don’t want it to pop off. Also, make sure you only add the adhesive to the outer edges and not in the middle or your waterfall won’t……fall! I added some Daffodil Delight Enamel Shapes to either side for a little texture!

Technique Tuesday – Diagonal Washi Tape!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! You all know that means I have a fabulous technique to share with you today! This one is fun and simple and you can use with any of the products you have at home – washi tape and stamp set of your choice!

The super bright colors and fun pattern make this card so cheery and amazing! You might have remembered me making a similar card a few weeks ago, check that out here! That one was just the Washi Tape background but this one I added in the stamping. It was really simple and easy to do so don’t fret and keep on reading!!!

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Washi Tape of your Choice, Stamp Set of your Choice

I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock (3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″) and placed a strip of the Affectionately Yours Designer Washi Tape diagonal across the paper (around the middle). The angle doesn’t matter, that is all up to you. I always try to start around the middle rather than the top or bottom because it allows for a good, long template rather than the little corner piece. Now that you have your base piece down, you can stamp a greeting or image above the washi tape. This can be anything you wish. I used the Love & Affection Stamp Set for the greeting and flowers. I used Cucumber Crush Ink, Night of Navy Ink, and Watermelon Wonder Ink. I stamped only the greeting at this time and filled in the flowers once I was all done. Now that you have your greeting on there, you can add another strip of Washi Tape above it at that same angle. Then stamp again and repeat until the entire cardstock is filled up. You will want to stamp each time so that you have enough room between each strip of Washi Tape. I off-set all of my greeting and used different colors. You could always add the greeting to one of the strips and filled the rest in with flowers or the image of your choice or you can stamp the greeting in each strip. It is all up to you! That’s why I love this card! You can do it at any angle, any stamped image, any colors, any washi tape. No rules, just lots of crafty fun!!! I layered this piece onto Night of Navy (4″ x 5-1/4″) and then onto a Watermelon Wonder card base!

Technique Tuesday – Stamp Resist!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! I hope you are all having an amazing week! I have a fabulous technique to share with you today!!! I am in love with this card so hard – the colors, the sweet greeting, and the amazing look!!! I hope you love it too!

Isn’t it amazing??? I love how the branches look like they are behind a fence or something with that emboss resist!! Let’s get started on how simple this card is!

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Irresistibly Yours Designer Series Paper, Sponge Brayer, Greetings & Embellishment of Choice

I started with a piece of the Irresistibly Yours Designer Series Paper measuring 5″ x 3-3/4″ and Tip Top Taupe Ink. Using a Sponge Brayer, you will start in the middle and roll out half way, turn, start in the middle and roll out half way. This is how I got that rustic/dirty center but kept the edges fairly clean. I went all the way around the card from the middle and then at the end I lightly went over the entire piece of cardstock just for a light look. Then I used the branch from the Jar of Love Stamp Set and inked it up in Tip Top Taupe and stamped it diagonal to the upper left and lower right. You will want to make sure that the entire tail end of the branch doesn’t stamp down because it might show on the other side of your greeting. If you go with a larger greeting, you will be fine. Be sure to wipe off any excess ink with a paper towel as it sometimes pools on top of the embossed portion. Then I layered it onto a piece of Flirty Flamingo (5-1/8″ x 3-7/8″) and then onto a Tip Top Taupe card base. Now you can add your greeting of choice. I went with the Jar of Love Stamp Set since it was already out. I stamped the “Love” in Flirty Flamingo and the “Spread The” in Tip Top Taupe onto Whisper White scraps. I punched it out with the Decorative Label Punch and added a layer of Flirty Flamingo behind it. Click here to see how easy it is to do that. I added a few loops of Linen Thread behind the greeting and secured it with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love it for that rustic, sweet, messy look!!!

Technique Tuesday – Diagonal DSP!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! You all know that means I have a fabulous technique to share with you!!! Today the technique is super fun and simple and uses every inch of your 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (not for 1 card though). Check out this cool card!

Simple and yet fabulous!!! I used the Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper and Love & Affection Stamp Set but this could totally pass for a Man Card…..right? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

SUPPLIES: Designer Series Paper of choice (DSP), Stampin’ Trimmer

You will need a 4″ x 4″ square of Designer Series Paper. I used the Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper for mine. The awesome thing about this size is that you can get ~~16 squares~~ 9 squares (CORRECTION) from 1 sheet of the paper with no leftover scraps. I love that!! Place the square diagonal on your Stampin’ Trimmer and cut. This doesn’t have to be exact or at any specific spot. Just a diagonal from side to side. I love that part too. 🙂 When I created mine, I just placed the Designer Paper on a piece of Whisper White (4″ x 5-1/4″) and stamped first. This way if I messed up my stamping, I could get another piece of white and not mess up my Designer Paper as well. So place your pieces on the white and stamp your greeting and design in that split opening. I used the Love & Affection Stamp Set. I stamped the greeting in Night of Navy Ink and the leaves in Cucumber Crush Ink. Then I adhered the DSP to the top and bottom and attached it to a Night of Navy card base! To finish it off, I added a few Night of Navy Enamel Shapes for a little POP! Simple and fabulous and this design is great for using up Designer Paper or whipping up a ton of cards quickly!!! Love it!

Technique Tuesday – Using a Sponge Brayer!!!

Happy Tuesday!!! I hope you are all having an amazing week! I have a fabulous technique to share with you today!!! I am showing you how to use the New Sponge Brayer on the Irresistibly Floral Designer Series Paper so you can get this fabulous look!!!

I am having so much fun with the Irresistibly Floral Designer Paper because it has FLOWERS and there are so many different fun ways to add color. I love it!!!

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Irresistibly Floral Designer Series Paper, Sponge Brayer, Ink Colors of Choice

I started with a piece of the floral image from the Irresistibly Floral Designer Series Paper measuring 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″. I didn’t want much of a border on my card front, just the beautiful flowers! I started with the lightest color – Daffodil Delight and rolled the Sponge Brayer over the ink pad. The sponge won’t pick up the ink like your are mopping up color, it will just be ever so slightly colored. Then I rolled it over the end of the Designer Paper – back and forth. The color will start to appear and you can continue until you have the desired shade. You will want to go about 1/3 of the way across the paper. Using a paper towel, you will want to wipe off any excess ink as it tends to sit on top of the embossed image. Then I changed out the sponge to a new one and did the same with Tangerine Tango. You will want to go over the top of the yellow a bit on that overlap portion so that it doesn’t look like stripes but instead like it fades into the next color. Wipe off the excess ink with the paper towel and then change out the sponge and finish off the Designer Paper with Watermelon Wonder. Be sure to go over that Tangerine Tango just a bit so your colors fade into each other! Wipe off the excess ink and you are all done!!! You can wash out your sponges with water and just keep squeezing them until they run clean and allow them to dry.

To finish off the card, I added this piece to a Whisper White card base and tied some Whisper White Baker’s Twine around the top of the card. For the greeting, I die cut the Happy from the Hello You Thinlits. I brushed some Wink of Stella over the top for a little shimmer and added it to the card front with the Fine Tip Glue Pen! If I would have planned this card out a little better, I would have put the yellow on the top of the card and placed the greeting up there so it popped some more. I already had it adhered to the card so I just went with it! I stamped the Crushed Curry border from the Thoughtful Banner Stamp Set and added the greeting from the Crazy About You Stamp Set (it coordinates with the Hello You Thinlits). I punched out the greeting with the Classic Label Punch and added it to my card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added a little Metallic Enamel Shape for a little more bling! This card is so bright and cheery and could be used for any occasion!
